Biophilia: nature in the home becomes a living trend
Love for living nature has been investigated by philosophy and science, and it has been unanimously established that human beings experience pleasure and satisfaction when they are in contact with nature. It is an innate attraction, a true necessity that is being rediscovered at this time and is being sought in the renovation of cities (which have become the negation of nature) and in the design of interior spaces, be they home or workplace.

WHAT CHANGES IN OUR HOMES
Last autumn's Salone del Mobile presented it among the 2021 (and 2022) interior design trends, or what we will increasingly want to bring into our homes and in general into all artificial spaces such as schools, hospitals, offices.
This translates into two aspects: the choice of plants (which ones, how many and where they should be placed), and the preference for materials of natural origin for furnishings and accessories, through to textiles.
Also the colour choices are increasingly moving in the direction of the colours of nature, to create harmonious contexts in which simulate an immersion in the outdoor landscape, to regenerate, reduce stress and thus respect the true human essence first and foremost. Hence green, neutral beige tones, browns, but also light blue (of the sky and the sea), always in tonalities compatible with those of nature, triumph in cushions, furniture coverings and carpets.
The floor is ideally dressed in the colour of grass, and the room changes character, recreating the relaxing atmosphere of the open-air space.
The era of aseptic houses, total whites, shiny surfaces and empty spaces seems to be over.
Now the home is increasingly a cosy nest; it is the place where interior and exterior dialogue and the most significant action is precisely to prioritise vegetation.

THE WORKING ENVIRONMENT
In the office perhaps plants are a real novelty, if we imagine them as a widespread presence, so that everyone throughout the day can benefit from their presence.
Green light, therefore, to the desk plan, opting for specimens with a height of 30-40 cm, to be placed on the worktop or a shelf, or as a separé to give privacy to each workstation.
Relaxation areas and waiting rooms are dressed in green and vertical gardens triumph, with interesting technological solutions for creating scenic “forest” effects even with indoor plants. There is no doubt about the ability of plants to reduce air pollution by various substances (such as formaldehyde).
The case of electromagnetic waves and the succulents that would counteract them is different: there are differing opinions on this.
Where everyone agrees, however, is on the aesthetic benefits and of the relaxing action of caring for plants entrusted to us.
Let's surround ourselves with green at work too
THE DAY AREA and BATHROOM
Light and water are essential elements for the health of plants (and curiously enough also of people!), so no doubts about enriching the living area and bathroom with specimens, taking into account the needs of the different species also with regard to humidity and heat.
To do this, one has to go back to the original habitats of the plants and see which home environments can reproduce their characteristics. For example, orchids are tropical flowers, they like diffuse (not direct) light and high humidity.
Perhaps in the bathroom they will find what suits them, while, however decorative, in the study or library in the half-light they may have a hard (and short) life.
When the bathroom becomes a conservatory, it goes without saying that we choose textiles (such as towels and bath mats) in pure cotton, preferably organic, to complete our nature-friendly environment. Others, on the other hand, adapt well to every situation and are not too demanding.
That is why varieties of Sanseveria, Dracena, Spatiphyllum, Anthurium, Pothos, Tillandsia and Ficus are recommended for each room, in a generic way.
The latter, widespread in several species (robusta, lyrata, benjamina), reaches considerable size, becoming a decorative element of some importance.

THE NIGHT ZONE
Finally, plants to keep in the bedroom have also been cleared for good, precisely because they purify the air and aid sleep.
First of all, lavender, with its relaxing power, which is also well obtained from the essential oil extracted from its flowers, and jasmine, with its sweet scent, but also ivy, which, with its strong ability to absorb pollutants (especially formaldehyde) is indicated for allergy and asthma sufferers, as it improves air quality and consequently breathing during sleep.
Even in the bedroom - the carpet is a Victory
