Michela Martini is a feng shui architect, she created the method Fluid Spaces to read contemporary living in the light of millenary Chinese wisdom and has recently published his first book, entitled “The Nest of the Soul.

Story of Giordana and how feng shui changed her life” from the publisher's website Chaosphere.

OT: What book is “The Nest of the Soul”?
MM:Feng shui is fascinating and complex.
It runs the risk of being trivialised by reducing it to a few simple tricks, but it actually requires a lot of study and interpretative skills.
It is not easy to find a balance point to disseminate this discipline.
To talk about feng shui, without drawing up yet another technical manual, I chose to tell the emblematic story of Giordana.
An extraordinary story, in many ways, but one that shows everyone how they can behave towards their home.
So “The Nest of the Soul” reads like a novel, but retraces the steps of an interior design consultancy. Michel Martini “the nest of the soul” OT: What basic assumption do you start from?
MM: The basic thought is that changing the house changes life.
To everyone, not just Giordana, who might appear particularly lucky.
Note that I say “change THE house”, not move.
This was a big crossroads that Giordana also found herself at, and which I recount in the book.
Environmental psychology teaches that the environment influences our mood, and mood is the basis of our behaviour.
So we can well say that the environment we create around us will make a difference in our lives; since I am convinced that we alone are the architects of our destiny, I maintain that making a few changes at home (small or large) is a good first step towards a new version of us, and of our future. the carpet in a feng shui project the carpet in a feng shui project OT: Who is this book for?
MM:
I thought of it and wrote it for all women who feel they are on a journey towards their full realisation.
No matter where they are on this journey, home will be the carriage that will allow them to travel more comfortably.
Of course, it is also for men who would like to accompany them, or who are able to embark on this path alone (but I must admit that they are a minority, at least among my clients). OT: Feng shui talks about “remedies”. Is the carpet one of them?
MM:
Feng shui speaks of harmonious homes, where energy flows benevolently, and where people are at ease.
Less than ideal conditions can be corrected with remedies, and the discipline indicates many, with a hierarchy that puts shapes first, followed by colours and finally materials. Carpets come to our aid in several ways: firstly by the shape they represent, usually a square or rectangle, which carries the earth energy (The elements water, wood, fire, earth, metal are considered, ed.).
This is ideal for those who feel the need for rootedness, stability and strength, or for strengthening relationships.
A round carpet has metal energy and, by virtue of its shape, will be the choice to strengthen leadership, creativity or friendship.
A lane, narrow and long, has the shape of a tree (wood energy), which in nature is an element that continues to grow: this type of carpet will give expansion energy, good for a successful business. OT: How can we play with colour?
MM:
To each energy corresponds not only a form, but also a colour.
It is a less powerful remedy, but still important to consider.
For each room we try to aim for harmony, and thus balance the different energies.
Be careful not to overload a space with one energy, as the feel-good effect will not be achieved.
The basic rule is that excesses must be mitigated and balanced.
So, green-blue tones are those of wood, colours from yellow to brown bring earthy energy, water is represented by black and blue, fire by red (in its wide range of shades from orange, pink to violet), metal by white and shiny metallic finishes. Playing with colour and creating the right energy Playing with colour and creating the right energy OT: Is there such a thing as a “perfect” carpet?
MM:
Of course not, because it all depends on the energetic nature of each home, considered in relation to the nature of the people living in or visiting it. However, the yellow carpet is called the “emperor's carpet”; this colour indicating influence has the power to purify everything that comes in from outside, leaving only positive energy enters the home.
It is therefore particularly suitable for the entrance, one of the crucial points of the house. yellow in colour is called "the emperor's carpet"." yellow in colour is called “the emperor's carpet”.” OT: Does a carpet unite or divide spaces?
MM:
Actually, it does both. The carpet is very important for open spaces, so fashionable in this era but not considered by ancient wisdom.
The idea of the traditional Chinese home provided dedicated, separate spaces for each function (food preparation, rest, social relations).
The carpet is perfect for separating the different energies that are needed, and need to be taken care of, for each area. In this case, it becomes a catalyst for energy, as it allows you to create focal points within the context of a single space. OT: Is there a room for which you would not recommend a carpet?
MM:
From an energy point of view, apart from the practical issues that everyone knows, I would say no.
Actually, I only advise against a carpet in one case: in saturated rooms (with furniture or furnishings).
To make people feel good, the home must contain only the essentials.
The carpet slows down the flow of energy, but in a room overloaded with furniture, this is already stagnant, and certainly does not need to be further curbed!
In any case, better to clear out and eliminate the superfluous, and then think about adding a carpet. characterise a space characterise a space
