How to furnish the entrance of your home?

For creative and harmonious solutions, we seek advice from the ancient Chinese school of Feng Shui.
We do not think that the result will be “chinoiserie” or something vaguely exotic.
On the contrary, today this millenary knowledge goes very well with the taste and style of western living.

A proof of this is the fact that if we are wondering how to choose the right carpet for the entrance of our house, surprisingly Feng Shui answers these very doubts very well.

Wind and water: the harmonious flow of energy

Let us take a step back and see what we are talking about when we say Feng Shui.
Literally meaning “Wind and Water”, Feng Shui is a doctrine born as the codification of a millenary Chinese knowledge that, starting from the observation of nature, has defined the rules to make the home a harmonious place, where the vital breath of Qi (the cosmic energy that moulds all things) can flow in a way that is in keeping with the well-being of those who live there. This current of energy is generated outside and then enters our homes, just like an air current.
It should therefore neither be too impetuous nor stagnate in the corners (both of which would cause disturbance to the inhabitants), and for this there are many ways to regulate its intensity.
As a result, our homes will be true places of wellbeing, where we will feel perfectly at ease, in a natural way, where we will regain our energy, sleep better, develop our creativity and where relationships between people will also improve. The entrance is the mouth of Qi: the first filter to energy from outside.

The Feng Shui indications are based on a traditional house type.
These teachings must be understood and then adapted to the structures of our current homes.
So, in the classical scheme we speak of Ming Tang, a part outside the house (a porch, a courtyard, the entrance door facing the street).

This is where energy is collected and that is why it must be specially cared for, precisely because it will act as a filter for the quality of living inside the house. Its functions are welcoming and purifying, just as it is for the people who are about to visit the house.

In our modern homes, you can recreate the Ming Tang effect by using a carpet, which therefore plays a major role in harmonising our entire home.
The carpet delimits an area that we can imagine as the decompression zone, a passageway that will resonate with the outside world, a collection point for energy, which will enter the home lighter, benevolent.
It will also be the space where, after crossing the threshold, we will begin to settle in, and where we will perform all the functions of welcome for guests. Feng-Shui-How-to-Choose-The-Right-Carpet-Or-Arm

Furnishing the entrance to enhance the welcome

The decoration of the entrance should be on two fronts, outside and inside the threshold, and should be inspired by the principles of cleanliness and order.
Accumulations of unsightly, broken or unused objects are literally forbidden, as storage for things waiting to be taken away (who knows when).
The door should also be protected by “guardians”, which could be two plants placed symmetrically on either side of the doorway.
At this point we have finally entered the house. So how do we choose the right carpet for the entrance, to best welcome our guests, and regulate Qi?
The advice is simple: place a carpet, preferably square (but also rectangular, if it follows the shape of an elongated room), preferably choosing it in earthy colours, in neutral tones ranging from beige to sand to brown.
Of course, in our stylistic choices we should be guided by taste and the sense of harmony that all elements of our interior design will contribute to create. With a carpet as the point of arrival from the outside, it will also be natural for people to pause for a moment before entering the home: the welcome thus becomes a meaningful and pleasant moment, a prelude to harmony for the entire time they will stay in the home.
All that remains is to try: perhaps our “Ming Tang” needs to be revised and improved? Simple, clean, uncluttered and symmetrical Simple, clean, uncluttered and symmetrical
