Carpets are essential when we talk about the landing, an area of frequent passage that must be protected from noise and dirt.
A doormat will serve the second purpose, and it would be a good idea to choose the same for everyone, perhaps opting for a dryer mat, which can also be made in a customised colour for the entire block of flats or even with its own logo, if one exists.
For the question of cushioning the steps of those going up and those coming down, however, one solution could be a walkway covering the entire landing.
In this regard, it might also be interesting to use roll carpeting, the one from the “red carpet“, for example, which would give importance to the passage and, among other things, would also allow vary, changing colour at times of the year.
One could welcome residents and their guests with a Christmas red, a spring turquoise, a summer green, and so on.

Simple, minimum-budget solutions

Not only carpets: for high-yield, low-budget measures to furnish the landing in an intelligent way, one can use pots with plants, taking care to choose those that will find a suitable habitat for them, and umbrella stands, another delicate subject.
Not to mention solutions, yet to be invented, for leave your shoes outside the flat, without invading the privacy of others or the decorum of the building.
This could be one of the trends of the not too distant future that we may find ourselves confronted with
