Designing an outdoor space
An outdoor space, small and secluded, can have two opposite fates: it can become a sort of open-air closet, ugly and forgotten by all, or it can turn into a secret garden, an exclusive place where you can spend moments in total privacy, enveloped in beauty; a corner of paradise to be furnished with inventiveness and taste, playing with lights and colours, from the floor to the sky.
For the second hypothesis we are talking about a makeover, even of a certain importance, work that requires good dexterity, specific tools but above all a strong initial project and the ability to look with creative eyes, aiming at the end result. For inspiration, just search the web (Pinterest offers many ideas) under “garden makeover before and after”.
Imagine a small space at the back of the house, perhaps once used for a vegetable garden, now uncultivated, or a terrace, habitable but not large.

The stages of transformation:
- Clear the space and think of it as a blank canvas. Watchword: decluttering and recycling whenever possible.
- Create green areas and give centrality to walkways (footbridges, pavements) and platforms.
The watchword: alternation. - Take care of the walls too. Watchword: materials and colour.
- Schedule sessions. Watchword: hospitality.
- Take care of the lighting. Watchword: details.
1. Of decluttering one always speaks when faced with a transformation. In this case it is a must completely clear the space until it becomes an empty rectangle, clean. Anything that is not needed, or cannot be reused, must be thrown away, according to our design.
2. In rethinking space, alternate green areas, with lawn (also synthetic) and plants, wooden walkways, paved passages or corridors. To highlight these areas, also furnish them with carpets, choosing the most suitable ones or reusing some that may have outlived their usefulness in the home: carpet runners, one or more kitchen mats or under-sink rolls (those made entirely of plastic, which can remain outdoors, are excellent).

3. Decorate the walls with wooden rods, screens, separators and privacy screens.Protecting the contour will give much importance to what is inside the garden or terrace.
If it is a matter of privacy, walls can also be raised when possible. If there are real walls, it is important to clean them, while even a simple paint job will transform them radically. 4. Seating, or reception area: a pleasant glance is not enough.
If you want to receive friends or spend moments of relaxation in solitude, it is essential to create a living room, preferably with armchairs and sofas, which can be softly upholstered, with outdoor fabric covers, or creations with recycled material, suitably processed.
Of course, since it is a living room, the carpet cannot be missing, to delimit and decorate this reserved area.
Again, this could be an opportunity to give a second chance to the furniture carpets you intend to replace in your home.

5. The final touch will be to create the atmosphere, whether for a daytime or an evening setting. The protagonist here is the lighting, to be provided as much between the plants, or along the path that will be created, as by points in the seating area.
The green choice, in this case, will be lights powered by small solar panels.
