What do lemons have to do with a swimming pool in the garden? It has more to do with creative thinking, and here's how. If the period, such as the current one, forces us to experience more the private spaces, to prefer small companies to large gatherings, and perhaps to forgo - at least for now - some travel, it is not certain that one cannot recreate the pleasantness of the holiday at home as well. If this is your goal, a swimming pool in the garden is not only right for you, it will even be the perfect answer! In fact, by doing so, the sense of holiday will even be increased, because you will enjoy your private space for longer than if you were a tourist.

Since another ingredient of happiness lies in setting attainable goals, let us not daydream about a villa with a park and an infinity pool, facing an enchanted valley, but look for the solutions for a swimming pool that fits comfortably in your backyard, manageable by non-experts (we are unlikely to be staffed) and, possibly also detachable, when the season is over and we do not want to keep the artefact permanently.

Naturally, the range of proposals on the market becomes very wide, depending on the budget available but also on one's own desires. The important thing is to imagine the details of our new oasis of relaxation, or fun, that will make us looking with new eyes at our former home.
Round or square, in-ground or above-ground, the pool will become the centre of attraction of our outdoor space. Space that must be completed with furniture and accessories to make every minute spent in the water perfect, or even simply admiring our corner of paradise that we will have carefully recreated.

THE CONTEXT

Let's start with the base. An English-style lawn, soft to the touch, on which you can walk barefoot, is definitely ideal. How can this be achieved? With turf care, or with the application of a synthetic grass carpet that in a few moves will transform an anonymous concrete courtyard into a prominent area, chic and cosy. Synthetic grass is easy to lay, drains well (it dries immediately, even after a rain shower), and to the eye and touch it perfectly emulates real lawn. Needless to say, it requires no maintenance and always remains perfect until the last of its days (i.e. until you get tired of it, because it is a decidedly durable asset). If, while dreaming of a swimming pool, we realised that we did not have a real garden at your disposal, this solution will be surprisingly effective, quick and affordable.

Now that we have created our garden, we can think about choosing the pool. Not before we have decided how to complete the entire area, with furnishing elements outdoor, modern or vintage, depending on taste.

THE LIGHT

A separate item that should be highlighted is lighting, since the pool area will live very much from sunset onwards. If the pool will be small in size (and on a small budget), it will almost probably not include interior lighting, a fascinating effect that we find in wellness centres or swimming pools of large facilities. But you can still act on the general atmosphere of the context, taking care of the lighting of the pool area with floor lights, to create a halo of soft light, or suspended lights, with spotlights or street lamps. Interesting proposals at solar charging, an ecological choice which becomes even more interesting because it does not require any electrical connections, all you have to do is place the luminous bodies wherever you prefer, recessed in the ground, or wall-mounted, suspended or resting on the ground. You can also opt for the mode with automatic switch-on, as the natural brightness decreases, to great scenic effect!

Let us pay attention to this, which is far from being a detail, because the lighting will greatly influence the use of the space. Low, warm, soft lighting will be perfect for a conversation space that is intimate and romantic, while bright, lively light will spice up cheerful evenings with friends.

From an aesthetic point of view, the lamps will also give a well-defined character to the context, which can immediately take on a contemporary and designer appeal, or a romantic and shabby chic one. There is also, for the more creative or daring, the possibility of inserting an impromptu note, contrasting with the general mood. It could be an antique accessory (a lamp but also a piece of furniture) in a modern, linear context or, vice versa, a design detail inserted between salvaged furniture. It will be the element perceived as extraneous that will attract the attention of those entering your garden. The choice is yours, and the freedom to create your own personal mix.
