Owner of the Olivo family to Pope Francis
Wednesday 17th September, during the General Audience in the Vatican, the Olivo family presented as a gift to His Holiness Pope Francis, a bespoke and unique rug. The meaning behind the creation of an artefact intended as a gift for the Most Reverend Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio, Bishop of Rome and Pope of the Catholic Church, is intended to express the heartfelt gratitude of the Olivo family for the innovative impact introduced by Pope Francis a year and a half after his accession to the Papal Throne. Furthermore, the choice of the name Francis – like the co-namesake Francesco Olivo – immediately fostered feelings of esteem and affection towards the Holy Father.
You cannot remain indifferent in the face of the welcoming and exemplary figure of this Pope, who looks to the essential nature of values and urges everyone to improve themselves. The intention that the Olivo family had in mind to realise for the Holy Father was well received by the Holy See and Wednesday 17 September 2014, in St Peter's Square, this circumstance was crowned which we are honoured to share with you.
From design to detail
Careful preliminary design work has enabled the optimal dimensions of the rug to be chosen, along with the perfect selection of the 11 yarn colours, as can be seen from the detailed images. The decoration was carried out on one level, thickness of 11 millimetres, 4 kg in weight per square metre. 110-line knotting. A meticulous work in progress that has led to an excellent final result.
The handcrafted piece was produced by the Indian division OTID OLIVO TAPPETI INDIAN DIVISION and made entirely from hand-knotted linen, wool and silk fibres in natural colours completely faithful to the original symbol, measuring 3.5m x 2.5m, reproducing the official coat of arms of the Holy Father with the inscription “Miserando atque eligendo”. It is completed by our signature in the bottom right-hand corner.
